Summary for A Child Called "It" Chapter 1

In the first chapter of "A Child Called "It" " David starts talking about his life and his mother and his feelings about it.  He got into detail about his abuse and explains the whole situation as if you were there.  His school started to notice his scars and how he was dressed.  The nurse took him in her office and examined him and was worried for him.  So the nurse told the other teachers about Davids situation and the teachers and the principal had decided to call the police for help.  But when the police officer started to ask David questions, David denied everything because he didn't want his mother to find out because if she found out that David was telling people he would be beaten a whole lot more.  That day David told the truth to the police officer and he was taken away from the school and his mother.  He would never see his mother again, because David was put into foster care and was now the property of the city.  This is were chapter one closed off.

"Tell'em...Tell'em you ran into the door"
I hate how is mother is lieing so she doesn't get in trouble for beating him.

If his mother knows this is wrong then why does she keep beating him?

David goes to the nurses every morning because she documents the new bruising or the scrapes just any marks.
David is late to school because he has to do every chore his mother assigns him.
