Summary of A Child Called "It" Chapter 3

In chapter 3 he is told why he was a bad boy.  He explains how his mother changed from a really nice women to a wicked witch.  His punishments were getting tougher and more frightening.  He would have to stand in a corner for hours and watch people eat, and he would be scared to say anything because he didn't want his punishment to get any worse than it already was.  One of the worst punishments he got was shoving his face into a mirror and his mother yelled at him and said to say "I am a bad boy".  She would do that a lot because she wanted him to think that, then after a while he actually started to think that he was a very bad child.  Another day David came home and she went to jerk his arm to go to the mirror and she jerked it so hard she broke his arm.  So that night she told him to sleep on the top bunk, so when she went to the doctors she told them he fell off and that's what she also told her husband.  His mother didn't want the whole family to know how bad he was really treated.

"I'm a bad boy, I'm a bad boy, I'm a bad boy"
David's mother would make him say this in the mirror over and over again for no reason she thought he was a bad boy and she wanted David to believe it.

Why does David's mother think hes a bad boy?

David started to dislike his brothers because they would just stare at him and not help out they would just watch him get abused.
When father was gone mother would beat him till no end.
